A complete traverse of the massif, by day and night

The Grande Traversée is the flagship event of the Trail des Cimes. A 165 km adventure taking runners through the entire massif, across valleys, alpine pastures, high-altitude passes and technical trails.

Starting in the heart of Val-Cimes, the route gradually climbs into the high mountains before the first night on the trails. Eight passes punctuate the course, including the Col des Arolles, the highest point of the event at 2,780 metres.

The second part offers long balcony sections and several panoramic views of the surrounding peaks before a final descent back to Val-Cimes.

A solid experience of ultra-trail and mountain running is essential. Weather conditions can change rapidly, and some sections are remote. Managing effort, nutrition and sleep is all part of the adventure.
